Our Commitment to Sustainable Energy: Clean, Renewable, and Surplus
At our Columbia Gorge data center, sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We believe in using clean, renewable, and surplus energy sources to power our bitcoin mining operations. To achieve this goal, our electrical service is primarily provided by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), a federal agency that manages the power grid in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
The BPA operates a network of hydroelectric dams along the Columbia River that generate clean, renewable, and surplus energy. As of 2020, the BPA’s fuel mix is 84% hydropower and 11% nuclear, making for a 95% clean grid mix. By using the BPA’s electrical service, we are able to access this sustainable energy source and power our mining operations with a clean grid mix.
Hydropower is an environmentally friendly way to generate electricity that doesn’t produce harmful emissions or pollutants. Hydroelectric dams have a long lifespan, which makes them a reliable and stable source of energy. Furthermore, by using surplus energy from the dams and other Non Flexible Load energy sources, we can help reduce waste and minimize our impact on the environment.
